What's Marlin (MDC and MTMO)

Marlin DRM is a content management system for CE devices and multimedia services, and its technical specifications are available at Marlin Developer Community (MDC) established in 2006 by a group of companies including Intertrust Technologies, Panasonic Corporation, Royal Philips Electronics, Samsung Electronics, and Sony Corporation. Also, the compliance rules for DRM implementation, the conformance test specification, and the license agreements for the commercial use of Marlin DRM are available at Marlin Trust Management Organization (MTMO) established in 2006 by the same group of companies listed above.

There is a General Compliance Rules commonly applied for Marlin specifications. In addition to this, the Specific Compliance Rules are required in order to fulfill the regional requirements in the case of IPTV-ES (IPTV End-point Service) specifications. In addition to the General Compliance Rules, these Specific Compliance Rules are required to comply once such Specific Compliance Rules are approved by the MTMO.

As one of the activities in this forum, Japan Specific Compliance Rules for IPTV-ES are developed. Once those are approved by MTMO, they officially become the Specific Compliance Rules for IPTV-ES in Japan. Adopters who commercially deploy IPTV-ES based services or devices are legally required to comply with these rules under the MTMO's license agreement. (For more information see the relation of the compliance rules. )
